Albuquerque Hot Air Balloon Festival

Every year since the first gathering of 13 balloons in 1972, the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta in New Mexico has brought together hot air balloonists and enthusiasts from all around the country and the world in what is the premier hot air balloon event of the year.

With the Sandía Mountains as a backdrop, over 500, 000 visitors head to Albuquerque to fly, launch and ogle over 550 balloons that include 90 special shapes from over 18 countries for one of the most photographed events there is.

And princesses and bees.

Such a change from ny. i remember growing up

by moxielady

In the hellhole that is long island, wishing we had never left albuquerque. i totally glamorized it in my head as some magical desert dreamscape where i'd be popular and my family would be happy. now as an adult, i'm so grateful that we moved east, i totally treasure the proximity i had to nyc growing up.
still, i miss the sopapillas and the hot air balloon festival. and skiing at taos.

Grand canyon area

by opinions_please

I went to the grand canyon with my husband last year and we stayed in flagstaff. it has a neat little downtown with a fair amount of restaurants. be forewarned that it can get downright cold at night there, especially when the wind blows.
we just walked the south rim trail of the grand canyon (long but very easy), so i can't really help with canyon hikes. i would suggest checking out the book "best easy day hikes grand canyon" by ron adkinson (it was at our local library). he mentioned a lookout point that is off the beaten path that most people don't know about. i can't for the life of me remember the name of it but if you get the book it's in there
