Such a change from ny. i remember growing up
In the hellhole that is long island, wishing we had never left albuquerque. i totally glamorized it in my head as some magical desert dreamscape where i'd be popular and my family would be happy. now as an adult, i'm so grateful that we moved east, i totally treasure the proximity i had to nyc growing up.
still, i miss the sopapillas and the hot air balloon festival. and skiing at taos.
Grand canyon area
I went to the grand canyon with my husband last year and we stayed in flagstaff. it has a neat little downtown with a fair amount of restaurants. be forewarned that it can get downright cold at night there, especially when the wind blows.
we just walked the south rim trail of the grand canyon (long but very easy), so i can't really help with canyon hikes. i would suggest checking out the book "best easy day hikes grand canyon" by ron adkinson (it was at our local library). he mentioned a lookout point that is off the beaten path that most people don't know about. i can't for the life of me remember the name of it but if you get the book it's in there
